Work in schools
N4BW is working with the 20 primary and 4 secondary schools in the area supporting teachers in many ways including the extension of their practical teaching skills. During recent months teachers have received training in delivering lessons in art and craft, sport, English grammar, mathematics and lifeskills. The teachers have also engaged in workshops in climate change, disability awareness, classroom management and administration.
One of our ongoing projects is to improve the classroom facilities in shools. Sometimes we build new classrooms, other times we renovate and restore exisitng ones.
Currently we are aiming to install desks and chairs in all classes for those learners towards the top of primary schools, a welcome change to them sitting on the floor.
In June two volunteers worked in secondary schools, preparing learners for final public exams. Marcin taught maths whilst Mary focussed on English revision and we are delighted to report that the results showed an improvement on previous years with better grades than had been anticipated
