A very hungry nation

Malawi, a country with a high dependence on agriculture, is experiencing disturbing impacts of climate change. It is estimated that Malawi contributes less than 0.1% to global emissions but is among the top 10 most climate vulnerable countries. The food crisis in Malawi is an example of how excessively and unfairly climate change impacts vulnerable countries.

Millions of Malawians re struggling, with families resorting to negative coping strategies like pulling hungry  children out of school  or by selling what minimal household goods they have

Here is an extract from a letter from a headteacher talking about the hunger his students are experiencing

 We are experiencing hunger this time. We started feeding students with porridge but our resources are limited.we are stopping the programme next week since we have run out of maize stock..Now a bag of maize is 95000 MK. However students class attendance will drop as they are coming from poor families where parents can not afford a meal.I

Students dropping out of school due to hunger will limit their chaces of ever gaining employment.

The cycle continues!
