Christmas Greetings and news from our Chairman

Dear “Network’ Friends and Supporters,

With the snow and ice firmly sticking to the pavements and fields, I send my warmest greetings for a Happy and Peaceful Christmas.

Your support for Network for a Better World during 2022, has allowed us to continue working to support the people of Sitima in Southern Malawi.

With my wife, Mary, I was fortunate to be able to visit Sitima during October of this year. We hadn’t been able to visit since 2018, so it was a wonderful chance to not only look over the wonderful work that our trustees who had been able to visit Sitima in the intervening years (Alice and Marian earlier this year) had managed to do but also to give our physical support to Frs Owen and Bernard who have kept our work ticking over during the ‘pandemic’ years.

Our physical support was mostly about ferrying building materials and supplies to our new school project at Mikundi School. We witnessed not only the first pick-axe blows to dig the foundations but, by the time we left, the foundation brickwork almost completed. Continued progress by our building team (led by Mr Danger!) should see the 3 classroom block finished and open by mid-January.

The rising cost of materials means that we will commission only one more 3 classroom block at Namisitsi School. Thereafter we will be looking to provide maintenance and repairs to improve the learning environment at more schools.

We are, therefore, adapting to the situation in Malawi but also to the world’s ‘cost-of-living’ crises.

This brings me back to clear message that comes from you, our loyal benefactors.

No matter what difficulties we are having in the UK, your financial generosity is unabated. The appeals we make in parishes and in newsletters, are demonstrating your commitment to improving the conditions for the poorest people.

Please keep us in your prayers and be sure that we remember you all in our prayers.
