Women’s groups

Women’s Groups and the women’s basic health education classes have been encouraged using interpreters and tapes with basic health subjects in the local language – Chichewa.

In 2017, a volunteer on a short-term placement in Sitima met with a group of ladies and began a weekly sewing group which has continued ever since. Around 20 ladies use the training room at Bessie’s Place to meet together, and to learn sewing techniques, with skills being shared by a couple of local volunteers.

Its not just sewing that the women focus on, they use the time to also learn new songs whilst they sewThe group has been taught how to make  reusable hygiene kits and a sewing machine and fabric have been provided for use by the participants in the scheme.
