network for a better world

The project’s overall goal is to decrease the impact of natural disasters by providing irrigated land for use by the people most at risk in the community. The land is for winter cropping to provide cash crops to increase the range of food available and provide income for the participants in the scheme.
Solar powered water pumps have been installed to provide irrigation in the dry season. It is envisaged that by providing an on-going irrigation system along with support and education on alternative farming techniques and business skills provides a long-term, sustainable answer to the on-going food shortages experienced by some of the poorest and most disadvantaged in Malawi.
