Masks for Malawi

Masks for Malawi

Malawi like everywhere else in the world is experiencing the traumas of Covid 19. At the time of writing, confirmed cases are 2500 and deaths 40. These figures may not seem high but they have shot up since the middle of June, thought to be because of the number of migrant workers returning to Malawi from South Africa. Projections are it will get much worse

Unfortunately, we cannot have any volunteers there at the moment but we are linking up with an Irish man, Evin Joyce, as well as Fr Owen O’Donnell, who are living in Sitima, to provide masks for Malawi. Evin is touring the area raising peoples’ awareness of the threat and how to protect themselves.   He is employing local tailors to make masks and then selling a mask and a bar of soap at a highly subsidized cost of 100 Kwacha, equivalent to around 13 pence

N4BW is doing what it can in providing funding for Evin’s work to continue and to ensure that soap and masks are available for all.
